डीएनबी भारत सरकार द्वारा मान्यता प्राप्त है और एमडी (डॉक्टर ऑफ मेडिसिन) या एमएस (मास्टर ऑफ सर्जरी) जैसी अन्य स्नातकोत्तर डिग्री के बराबर है। मुख्य अंतर यह है कि डीएनबी की पेशकश राष्ट्रीय परीक्षा बोर्ड द्वारा की जाती है, जो स्वास्थ्य और परिवार कल्याण मंत्रालय के तहत एक स्वायत्त निकाय है।
